Kanyanya Ex Grounds came alive as the Jovoc League Season 6 kicked off with blessings from Rev. Fr. Katono, an electrifying performance by Karole Kasita, fierce football action, and record-breaking attendance.

Kampala, Uganda — Yesterday, Sunday 15th March 2026, Kanyanya Ex Grounds came alive as the Jovoc League Season 6 kicked off in style! From blessings to beats, from fierce football to legendary faces, it was a day that set the bar sky-high for the season.

Mass and Blessings

The day began with a morning mass led by HM Jovoc, Rev. Fr. Katono, who prayed for and blessed the new season. A heavy downpour followed immediately after, threatening the day, but it cleared after 40 minutes, allowing preparations for the Season 6 opener to continue smoothly.

Trophy Handover

The reigning champions, Solutions FC (Season 5 winners), formally handed back the Vollinger Trophy to the league management. The ceremony was attended by Rev. Fr. Katono and Sajoba Chairman, Mr. Moses Buye Kuteesa, marking a ceremonial start to the competition.

Karole Kasita Electrifies the Crowd

Ugandan music sensation Karole Kasita, the "Stage Goddess," delivered an electrifying performance, keeping the crowd dancing and singing along. Her set perfectly complemented the Jovoc League opener, blending music, sport, and community celebration.

The 20 participating teams battled fiercely, producing exciting results:

  • Nsiikye Saints (2005–2010) lead the table with 6 points, scoring 3 goals and conceding 1. Their fresh signings inspired by the New Jersey style make them early title favorites.
  • Abezekyenda (2008–2013) also have 6 points from 2 wins, with a perfect defensive record.
  • Legends (2003–2008), Abanihizi (2007–2012), Basheya (1998–2003), Abakiiki (2017–2023), and Abomutumba (2015–2020) all remain unbeaten, each collecting 4 points.
  • Abentima (2018–2024) impressed from start to finish, bringing energy, vibes, and smiles, and winning the hearts of the crowd.

Welcoming New and Returning Teams

Season 6 welcomed:

  • Abentima, joining the league for the first time.
  • Abazibu (2000–2005), returning after going AWOL in Season 5.
  • Senior OBS including Eroboti FC (1995–2002), who played, cheered, and reconnected with old friends.

Record-Breaking Attendance

The #JLS6 opener recorded the highest attendance at Kanyanya Ex Grounds in the history of the Jovoc League, highlighting the growing support for the alumni sporting platform.

Looking Ahead

In his closing remarks, Jovoc League Chairman, Mr. James Yesiga, reminded the crowd with the witty local phrase: "arasinde ataahe", loosely translated as "whoever gets drunk should go home." Laughter and cheers followed, wrapping up a day full of fun and football spirit.

Match Day Two (MD2) is set for Sunday, 12th April 2026, again at Kanyanya Ex Grounds, where teams will battle for early dominance in the standings.
